Teen arrested for allegedly bringing gun to local high school

A 16-year-old student has been arrested by Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives following an investigation into an alarming incident at C.E. Byrd High School. Sheriff Steve Prator confirmed the arrest, expressing the seriousness of the situation and the commitment of law enforcement to maintain a safe learning environment.

On Wednesday morning, Sheriff’s School Resource Officer Rufus Porter, stationed at C.E. Byrd High School, acted swiftly upon receiving a report from the school administration. Officer Porter discovered a loaded Glock 43 handgun, along with ten rounds of 9mm ammunition, concealed in a small backpack belonging to a 16-year-old student, authorities say.

In order to facilitate a thorough investigation, the student was promptly transported to the Criminal Investigation Division Office. Authorities say they uncovered troubling details linking the student to a previous gun-related incident at another local high school. Furthermore, authorities determined that the teenager is allegedly associated with a local gang.

The arrested student now faces charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile and Carrying a Firearm by a Student on School Property. Following the arrest, the teen was booked into the Caddo Juvenile Detention Center, where appropriate measures will be taken to address the situation.

While the immediate investigation has resulted in the arrest of the student, authorities remain vigilant as they work to determine if any additional individuals were involved in the incident. The Sheriff’s Office is determined to ensure the safety of students and staff within the school community.
