MONROE, La. (AP) — The superintendent of a northeast Louisiana school district has announced plans to retire.

The News-Star reports Ouachita Parish Superintendent Don Coker told the parish School Board on Tuesday that he’s leaving July 4, 2023.

Coker has been at the helm since 2015

Coker has led the school district since 2015. He has worked more than 35 years in education, serving as a teacher, coach, principal, personnel director and assistant superintendent before being appointed to the top job.

A search for his replacement is expected to begin in December.
